President Donald Trump filed a motion Monday for Judge Tanya Chutkan to recuse herself from Jack Smith's bogus January 6 case.
"Judge Chutkan has, in connection with other cases, suggested that President Trump should be prosecuted and imprisoned. Such statements, made before this case began and without due process, are inherently disqualifying," President Trump's attorneys wrote.
During a 2022 hearing, Chutkan lamented that President Trump "remains free to this day."
Mark Levin, a former chief of staff for Attorney General Ed Meese, said Sunday on Fox News: "The bottom line is this: Judge Tanya Chutkan is absolutely not fit to be the judge in this case. She’s already demonstrated that...This is worse than the appearance of a conflict. This is a conflict, a grotesque conflict."
Judge Chutkan comes from a family of Jamaican communist revolutionaries.
Chutkan also defended the violent 2020 Black Lives Matter riots.
During a sentencing hearing for a January 6 defendant, Chutkan said: “Now, there are some people who have compared the riots of January 6 with other protests that took place throughout the country over the past year and who have suggested that the Capitol rioters are somehow being treated unfairly. I flatly disagree. People gathered all over the country last year to protest the violent murder by the police of an unarmed man…to compare the actions of people protesting, mostly peacefully, for civil rights, to those of a violent mob seeking to overthrow the lawfully elected government is a false equivalency and ignores a very real danger that the January riot posed to the foundation of our democracy.”
